Weekly Ravings - 15 September 2025

It’s a shorter update this week as I have so much going on between work and my daughter’s 11th birthday 🥳.

Caught Stealing 🎥

Although it’s a completely different movie to Weapons, I had the same feeling coming out of this of having been very nicely surprised by a movie that had completely flown under my radar.

Caught Stealing has real late 90s / early 00s Guy Ritchie vibes. If that description rings a bell for you, you should definitely have it on your watch list. I’ve only seen Austin Butler in Dune 2 before this, but he has a real movie star presence to my eye.

It’s a real shame that it doesn’t seem to be doing that well at the box office.

Hollow Knight 🎮

As much as I loved and was completely addicted to ToTK, I’ve ditched it with only Ganon left to defeat.

I’m now thoroughly engrossed in Hollow Knight at the fourth attempt and loving/hating it in nearly equal parts. I really do love a Metroidvania and it definitely stands up so far as one of the best in the genre.

But at the same time, some of the game mechanics are pretty brutal, to mildly. You get five hits before you die, at which point you get sent back to the last save point and are at very real risk of losing all the geo (money) that you’ve put the effort into collecting. It genuinely makes exploration both exciting and genuinely fearful. Having no map in new areas until you find where you can buy it also adds another layer of challenge to finding your way around.

I do like this game and I’m by no means a novice gamer, but I definitely feel like they could have added some options to improve its accessibility. I’m sure that this discussion has been taking place for the last seven years and is likely repeating right now for Silksong.

Running 🏃

I’m getting back into the flow of running regularly but really need to up my distance to 10km and beyond. It feels like a long way right now, but ideally I’ll be doing half marathon distance by the end of the year.

Over shorter distances, I’ve managed get my 5km down from 41:39 to 32:17! It feels really good to be getting closer to sub 30 mins and knowing that it’s possible.
