Week Notes - 31 August 2025
Weapons 🎥
I love it when a great movie just comes out of nowhere and surprises everyone. Given how much I enjoyed Barbarian, I should have already had Zach Cregger on my radar, but Post Weapons, I’ll most definitely be eagerly awaiting whatever he does next.
Without delving into the plot or spoilers, movies structured around different character POVs are generally my jam. Weapons uses this to great effect to progressively reveal more and more plot from different perspectives.
Cinema needs way more of these relatively low budget movies that try something different and it’s great that it looks like it’s seeing the commercial success that it deserves.
Nolan IMAX Season
I’m super lucky that my local cinema has a legitimately great IMAX screen. So when they ran a Nolan season over August I was very quick to get my tickets booked.
It was awesome to rewatch Inception and Tenet in the format they were meant for. The taller image obviously looked fantastic, but the sound for both was just phenomenal. Tenet in particular was a visceral experience, the impact of the kitchen fight was massively amplified and you could really feel every blow.
Both soundtracks were also done full justice.
EV charger 🔋
We had a Hypervolt Home 3 Pro installed last week. We bought it directly from Hypervolt and the entire process was super smooth. The installation took just over an hour and everything has worked perfectly so far.
As someone who buys far too many (USB) chargers, I am in my element going through the app and messing around with all the settings. I love that it also looks great as well as being super functional. It’s also just nice not having to worry any more if the granny charger is going to burn my house down whilst the car is charging at night.
I now have to figure out if it’s worth changing to a dedicated EV tariff for it. I’m currently on Agile Octopus which is fairly cheap all day long, whereas the EV tariffs charge more during the day in exchange for a cheaper night rate.
Football’s back ⚽
I’m a few weeks late, but boy is it great to have “proper” Football back. With the signing today of Isak, it looks like Liverpool have decisively won the transfer window. Given the mixed (but successful) start they’ve had to the season, it’s going to be very interesting to see how that translates onto the pitch.
What I’m playing 🎮
I finally made it to the Spirit Temple and to call it a let down would be generous. I now just have to beat Ganon and to be honest I’m quite looking forward to moving on after 140 odd hours in Hyrule.
I’m trying to decide what to play next out of Hollow Knight and Metroid Dread
Running 🏃
I had a two week break due to reasons, so was happy to get a 6.5KM run in this week. I only have 237 days to go till the marathon and really need to start upping my distances soon.
